Federal judge arrests Morgan County sheriff over jail food.

DECATUR, Ala. (AP) - A federal judge has ordered the arrest of Morgan County Sheriff Greg Bartlett, who was held in contempt of court for failing to adequately feed jail inmates while profiting from the skimpy meals.
U.S. District Judge U.W. Clemon ordered marshals to take Bartlett into custody at the end of a hearing Wednesday in Decatur.
The sheriff had testified that he legally pocketed about $212,000 over three years with surplus meal money but denied that inmates were improperly fed.
Clemon, however, said the sheriff would be held until he comes up with a plan to provide the 300 jail inmates with nutrionally adequate meals, as required by an earlier court order.

Calhoun Community College Establishes Scholarship Fund

Calhoun Community College Establishes Scholarship Fund
in Memory of Elizabeth Cheatham

elizcheatCalhoun Community College today officially announced the establishment of a scholarship fund in memory of the late Elizabeth C. Cheatham, who taught computer information systems and office administration courses at the college. The announcement was made during a memorial service in her honor Friday at Calhoun’s Decatur campus, attended by over 200 college personnel, students and local residents.

Cheatham was a member of the Calhoun faculty for almost 25 years until her untimely death on Thursday, August 21, 2008, as the result of an aneurysm.  “Her love for her students, dedication to education and infectious smile had a positive impact on everyone she touched, so we felt it was befitting to establish this scholarship to honor her memory,” commented Calhoun President Marilyn Beck.

According to the Calhoun Foundation, once the scholarship fund has reached the $25,000 level, it will become a perpetual scholarship with the ability to provide annual scholarship funds to deserving students attending Calhoun.

Anyone interested in contributing to the scholarship should contact Jennie Walts in the Calhoun Foundation Office at 256/306-2579 or by email at jlw@calhoun.edu.  Checks may be sent directly to the Foundation and should be made payable to the Calhoun Foundation with the notation "For the Elizabeth Cheatham Scholarship"; mailing address P.O. Box 2216, Decatur, AL  35609.

My Obama - Biden Sign was Stolen !

Well, I come home tonight about 9 PM and notice my sign missing. I had a feeling this was going to happen for some reason. These McCain-Palin supporters are getting scared and ruthless fearing McCain might lose the Presidential race. Be sure I'll have another sign up Monday!

What Plumber Makes a Quarter Million Dollars?!

All the talk is about Joe the Plumber. Did McCain plan this one? What he didn't plan was knowing that the Joe the Plumber owes back taxes, doesn't have a plumbing license or plumbing apprentice license - which is against the law in Ohio, and lied about the business he was going to buy - stating that it made over a Quarter Million Dollars - records show that the business only made near $100,000 in the recent years. Sounds like he needs a tax break while not paying his taxes.

Obama WINS Another and FINAL Debate!

Barack played it cool and calm as McCain tryed to score some points. People want to hear what the candidates are going to do for the American People and that's what Obama gave them. McCain stays on the Negative and Misleading talks. As Hillary said, 'It's not who you are for but who is for you!" Go Democrats - Lets clean up after this Republican mess that has been left behind by George W Bush. It took a Democrat to clean up after the first Bush and it's going to take another Democrat to clean up after another Bush. There is dirt under every Bush!
